I was thinking about food, (which, let’s face it, is not unusual for me!) when I got the idea for this treat. We’re always looking for desserts to make for the restaurant that are easy to prepare and also wow our customers. Enter this simple new favorite. The banana is the perfect flavor match for the dulce de leche. Add some whipped cream and crushed graham crackers and you’ve got dessert heaven. Or, you could substitute the dulce de leche for chocolate spread or Nutella. Yum! Let us know what you think!
Yield: 4 large glasses
3 oz of graham crackers or other plain cookies (80 g)
1 tbs of granulated sugar
2 tbs of melted butter
A small pinch of salt
2 large bananas, sliced into coins
17.5 oz of dulce de leche (500 g)
8.5 fl oz of whipping cream (250 ml)
3 tbs of icing sugar, or to taste
In a food processor, blend together the cookies, butter, granulated sugar and salt until fine crumbs form.Set aside.
Whip the cream with the icing sugar until medium peaks form. Set aside.
Gently layer the crumbs, dulce de leche, whipped cream and banana slices in the glasses, beginning with the crumbs. Before and after every layer of dulce de leche and whipped cream, place a thin layer of crumbs to prevent the bananas from sinking. Feel free to layer in any order you like and to make the layers as thin or thick as you prefer.
Garnish with an extra slice of banana and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- It’s best to make these as close to the serving time as possible, so that the banana doesn’t turn brown
- You might need to use a small spoon for the layering – depending on the height of the glasses, it can be tricky not to make a mess!
